Switching Gears

I originally began this blog with these thoughts... I enjoy writing and I have many many hobbies and loves so why not create a blog where I can share my life with everyone. I had zero direction (as is my life) and my blog struggled because from day to day I was unclear of what I was even doing.

Fast Forward...

With much thought, I am deciding to switch gears on my blog. Yes I do love crafting, building, making, baking, and pretty much I just love everything. But... I also truly enjoy traveling. I can honestly say that I am almost never home on the weekends. Every chance we get Kevin and I are either off on an adventure with Sophie or off on our own adventure. I love it and wouldn't have it any other way. With that being said I hope to take this blog in a direction covering my travels -favorite things, restaurants and of course best desserts in each place! Oh.. and I will probably throw in some beer, wine and drinks too (many of our trips are based around visiting breweries).

My awesome friend and business partner Stacy (Emily Kate Blog) does an amazing job covering some DIY, cakes, designs and pretty things check her blog out! We plan on being able to link up our blogs and our business once everything gets rolling.

This Friday,  Kevin and I are heading out the Hershey, PA, first stop is at Troegs Brewery for dinner and drinks. We have been there before and it is amazing, this time I will be there with a different perspective in mind! I can't wait to share my experience with you on Monday!

Sewing...

I was very busy last week creating some things for one of my best girlfriends' baby shower. I can not wait to meet her little princess! I love making and giving (I also love receiving), one of kind homemade presents. I decided to try to sew two little stuffed toys for the babe. Her room is going to be owl themed so I used a free owl template to make this baby owl. It wasn't hard, but it was harder than I thought! It required a lot of hand stitching but for my first attempt at sewing in 15 years, I will take it!

When I was cutting my pattern for the elephant I completely misread the part about adding 1/4" to the pattern in two spots. The fabric I had for the elephant is so soft and I did not have enough to re-cut the pieces, so I just went for it. This is why the elephant has such a little head! I will not make that mistake again! I did add crinkly material in the ears for baby to play with so I think that makes up for it! : )

And even though this is not close to perfect, I do love this pearl pacifier clip. Because obviously beautiful babes need to learn about pearls and pretty things

Work in progress...

Well since Rome was not built in a day, I do not feel so bad about all my half finished, hardly begun projects I have lingering! I always have high expectations and early completion dates for projects I begin and then things like life and work seem to get in the way... how dare they!

So, to feel better about the uncompleted projects, here are a few finished products for friends and family : )

Wedding guest book made for Melissa. It was nice to be able to build something for her special day that she will have forever. <3 If you are interested in a guestbook for your own wedding or event click HERE

And I made these adorable headbands for my cousin's baby.  It is great to know that these headbands are one of a kind and special for my my cousin only. Every time I see a picture of Evelyn in one of her headbands it warms my heart <3

Jack of all trades. Master of none

"Jack of all trades, master of none"... this phrase describes a person whom has many talents, yet does none exceptionally well. I feel this is a common saying that is used to describe many men that have a general knowledge of their "trades", handymen. My boyfriend is handyman and I would have to agree he has a general understanding of most "trades", master... not so much.

Well I believe I am also a "Jack of all trades"... learning to be the master of many.. It is not just for the men. My trades are not electrical, plumbing, mechanical, etc...  my :"trades" are much more fun:

Baking
Pottery
Building
Wine Making
Cooking
General crafting.. That totally counts right?!
Is entrepreneurship a trade? if not it should be!

I will admit, I am at the beginning stages of all of the above, possibly not even at the jack of all trades level. I should  really consider myself a dabbler of all trades as I clearly enjoy many different things. But I want to become a master, not just at one thing but everything I enjoy doing! Becoming a master takes time (which I seem to never have), patience (working on this one everyday) and education (I have the tools I need for this one). So as I am still introducing this blog, and what it represents, I would like to share with you a few photos of my first trade.. Gardening!

Here is my garden, well technically it is Kevin's and mine we have worked and built it together, so our garden. When I started believe it or not it was a pile of junk... actual junk that was just collecting at the edge of the property. People say blood, sweat and tears... well this garden would not be here with out it!

The beginning (unfortunately I do not have any before pictures)

Spring/Summer 2013

I built and leveled the retaining wall all by myself : ) proud moments!

Year 2 Spring 2014

Year 3 Spring 2015. It is amazing to see all the tulips and lilies from last year pop up!

I can't wait to continue to watch this garden blossom and grow over the years!

Cheers!

Cheers to you! Thank you for the three minutes of your life you have dedicated to reading my first blog post! I can assure you, this will not be interesting. You may want to comment after reading to wish for the last three minutes of your life back. Although I believe I have quite an eclectic skill set (you will learn this in blogs to follow), which I strive to improve everyday, I can not grant wishes. I hope you learn, laugh and generally enjoy this blog and the many entries to follow. I hope to share with you my passion for almost anything DIY, from wine making to pottery and everything in between, and to encourage you to try things you may not think possible.  Life is not about being the most successful and richest (although that would be nice), it is about being happy and following your dreams, So once again, cheers! Cheers to crafting, wine making (and drinking), and following dreams!
